Work Experience

Tom is a student in year 10 who joined SenSat for two weeks on work experience in July. As part of his time here, we asked him some questions about his experience at SenSat, and where he sees himself in the future.

What surprised you the most about working life at SenSat?

The atmosphere and the work. I came into my work experience with the mindset that I would just be making tea and coffee and I thought it would be a boring office atmosphere. But I was completely wrong, they allowed me to join in with their work and work on projects. The atmosphere is so fun yet everyone is so hardworking which make everyone excited to come into work and get everything done.

What area of SenSat would you like to learn more about and why?

I would like to learn more about all of the areas because I  think they all are very important in the expansion of the company. However, if I would have to pick one - probably the product area because I find it really interesting how they code and how they overcome a problem in Mapp, for example, a bug.

As you have gotten older, how have your career aspirations changed?
When I was younger I wanted to be a footballer but then I started to play football and realised I didn't love it enough to become a professional. As I got older, it has changed from being a YouTuber to being a marine biologist. Now I'm not sure what I want to do, but I think I want to do something in computing because I believe it’s the future of the world.

What's the coolest thing about the SenSat Office?

The coolest thing would be that everyone can interact with each other. In some offices, everyone can be isolated which can be good in some ways, but I prefer working in a team environment. I think it is good that everyone is able to talk and interact with one another.

What did you enjoy the most from your last two weeks?

Going out and watching the drones fly, that was so cool.

If you could write a slogan for SenSat, it would read:

Make the impossible, possible with drones.

What country are you from?

England

What are your interests outside of work/school? What really excites you?

I love to play and watch basketball, I also like to play games on my PS4. As well as that I like clothes and shoes.

What would be your dream job?

Being a basketball player but I’m too small to do that.

What are some things that everyone should try at least once?

Food from different countries, I think that food can tell you a lot about a country and it's a good way to experience different cultures.
