How to visualise your 3D mesh designs

Sensat's latest update means you can now visualise your 3D mesh designs. Simply upload .GLB or .DWG data to see it in context alongside your survey data.



Sensat is excited to announce the launch of a new 3D mesh support feature for .GLB and .DWG files to help you visualise your 3D project assets in the full context of your project site.


Felipe, a Sensat software engineer who worked on the development of this feature will walk us through the process of uploading 3D design data onto the Sensat platform. Charlotte, a Sensat product manager, will explain the impact of this functionality on your team’s workflows and the construction industry’s current state.

When talking to some of our clients, we discovered that some design engineers and project managers had to make the trade-off between BIM and GIS data; visualising designs or geospatial data, often dealing with multiple proprietary file types and platforms.


BIM models were visualised by engineers separately and independently to their project’s topographical survey data, making it difficult for construction teams to create an accurate digital representation of their site to visualise and subsequently collaborate on.


We built Sensat’s new 3D mesh support so that these compromises are no longer necessary. With Sensat’s new 3D mesh support, you can create a data-rich digital representation of your site by adding your BIM design models to the platform and visualising these in full context of all of your site’s assets and survey data, grounded in geospatially referenced data. All this can be accomplished in a highly performant, frictionless 3D environment.


Another careful consideration for our users when working with design data, is balancing the way their teams visualise and share their present progress on assets, incorporating future planned design work. Typically, these respective models would be accessed on different proprietary platforms, making work siloed and collaboration difficult for teams.

[Felipe] How do I add my DWG or GLB files into the Sensat platform?


With Sensat’s 3D mesh support, there is no need for any preprocessing of proprietary file formats before uploading them to the platform, Sensat does the work for you.


Simply upload your 3D design models and our platform will do the heavy lifting to process your data into a geospatially-accurate visualisation of your asset within your project site and survey data.


To upload your 3D design models to the Sensat platform, complete the following steps:

  • Once you have logged into the Sensat platform, navigate to your project from the project management homepage.

  • Once you are in your project, navigate to the `+` upload button on the right-hand toolbar on the screen

  • Upload the DWG or GLB file of from your local drive

  • As soon as the file is processed, you will be able to see your 3D design model in your project
